DeoxIT D-Series Guide: Contact Treatment, Deoxidizing and Protection
DeoxIT D-Series Guide: Contact Treatment, Deoxidizing and Protection
Electrical and electronic connections can develop oxidation, corrosion and contamination over time. Even a small amount of buildup on a contact surface can affect the reliability of a connection and contribute to intermittent signals, increased resistance or unwanted connection problems.
DeoxIT® D-Series is designed specifically for these types of maintenance challenges. More than a conventional contact cleaner, D-Series is formulated to deoxidize, rejuvenate, lubricate and protect metal electrical contacts and connectors while improving conductivity.
What Is DeoxIT D-Series?
DeoxIT D-Series is a contact and connector treatment designed for metal electrical connections and contacts affected by oxidation, corrosion and contamination.
CAIG describes D-Series as a fast-acting deoxidizing solution that dissolves oxides and sulfides on metal surfaces. It also leaves a thin microscopic layer intended to help protect the contact surface and prevent dissolved contaminants from reattaching. The formulation has approximately 20% deoxidizing action according to CAIG.
D-Series can be used on a wide range of metal connections, including switches, relays, plugs, jacks, connectors, grounding blocks, batteries and other electrical contact points. It is also used with common electronic connectors such as RCA, XLR, USB, HDMI and Ethernet connections.
What Does DeoxIT D-Series Do?
The purpose of D-Series goes beyond simply removing dirt from a contact.
It is designed to remove oxidation and corrosion, improve conductivity, lubricate the connection and provide surface protection. By treating the contact surface, D-Series can help reduce intermittent connections and wear caused by repeated contact movement.
CAIG also states that D-Series can help reduce arcing and radio-frequency interference and actively displace moisture and contaminants.
This makes the product useful for both stationary connections and contacts that are exposed to vibration or repeated movement.
DeoxIT D5S-6 — 5% Spray
D5S-6 is the spray version of DeoxIT D-Series containing a 5% DeoxIT solution.
Its solvent provides a flushing action, helping move away surface dirt, grease and other contaminants while the product is applied. CAIG specifies a slower-evaporating solvent for this version, making it particularly suitable for connectors and components that are accessible for direct spraying.
The D5S-6 also uses an adjustable Low-Medium-High valve, allowing the amount of spray to be adjusted according to the application.
Because it provides flushing action, this format can be useful when treating accessible connectors, switches, plugs and other metal electrical contacts where broader application is appropriate.
DeoxIT D100L-2DB — 100% Liquid with Brush
D100L-2DB takes a different approach. It contains 100% DeoxIT solution with no solvent and comes with a brush applicator.
Unlike the D5S-6 spray, it does not provide flushing action. Instead, the brush allows the product to be applied directly to an accessible contact or connector with greater control. CAIG specifically recommends this format when the contact is easily accessible or when overspray is a concern.
The 7.4 mL container is designed for approximately 500 brush strokes, according to CAIG.
DeoxIT D100L-25C — Precision Needle Dispenser
D100L-25C is another 100% DeoxIT solution, but it is supplied with a precision needle dispenser.
This format is intended for applications where a very controlled amount of product needs to be placed directly onto a specific contact or connection. Like D100L-2DB, it contains no solvent.
The precision dispenser can be particularly useful when working with small contacts or electronic assemblies where controlling the application area is important.
Which DeoxIT D-Series Product Fits the Application?
The three products share the same D-Series purpose, but their application methods are different.
D5S-6 is the spray option when flushing action and broader application are useful. Its solvent helps remove surface contamination while the product is applied.
D100L-2DB is a 100% liquid formulation with a brush, making it suitable for directly accessible contacts where controlled application and avoiding overspray are important.
D100L-25C also uses 100% DeoxIT but adds a precision needle dispenser for more targeted application to small or specific contact areas.
The right format therefore depends not only on the condition of the electrical connection but also on its accessibility, size and how precisely the product needs to be applied.
Why Use DeoxIT D-Series?
DeoxIT D-Series is designed around a specific electrical maintenance problem: oxidation and contamination on metal contact surfaces.
Instead of treating the product simply as a general cleaner, D-Series combines deoxidizing, lubricating and protective functions in a product family designed specifically for electrical contacts and connectors. Its different application formats allow the same core treatment approach to be used for accessible components, controlled brush application or precision dispensing.
The appropriate product should always be selected according to the contact material, component type, accessibility and manufacturer's requirements.
At Factoval, we offer selected DeoxIT D-Series products, including D5S-6, D100L-2DB and D100L-25C, for electrical and electronic maintenance applications where contact treatment, deoxidizing and protection are required.
