Prop 65 & Product Safety

Last updated: October 8, 2026

FACTOVAL sells lubricants, greases, penetrating oils, silicone sealants, contact cleaners, aerosols, and fuels. These are chemical products, and some are flammable. This page explains California Proposition 65 warnings, how to get Safety Data Sheets, and general safety practices. It does not replace the label, the Safety Data Sheet, or any product-specific warning.

1. California Proposition 65

California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, known as Proposition 65, requires businesses to give warnings to people in California about significant exposures to chemicals that the State of California has listed as causing cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. The list includes hundreds of chemicals, some of which can be found in, or produced by the use of, products such as petroleum-based lubricants and penetrants, solvent-based cleaners and aerosols, sealants, and fuels. For example, burning butane or other fuels produces carbon monoxide, which is on the Proposition 65 list as a chemical known to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.

How we provide warnings

  • When a product requires a Proposition 65 warning, the warning appears on the product page, or through a clearly marked “CA WARNING” link on the product page, before you complete your purchase.
  • The product’s label or packaging may also carry a warning provided by the manufacturer.
  • The product-specific warning names at least one listed chemical and directs you to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov for more information.

This page is general information. It does not replace the product-specific warning shown on the product page or label. A Proposition 65 warning does not mean that a product violates any product safety standard or requirement. If you have questions about a warning, please contact us.

2. Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

  • A Safety Data Sheet is available for every hazardous chemical product we sell. Where we have it, the SDS or technical data sheet is linked on the product page or on our technical documents page.
  • If you cannot find an SDS, or need the most recent version, email contact@valenteint.com with the product name or SKU. We will send it promptly, usually within one business day.
  • Employers and business customers: if you are buying for use in a workplace, an SDS is available on request for every hazardous chemical product we sell, as required by the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard.
  • SDS and technical documents are prepared by the manufacturers. If the label on the product you receive differs from a document on our Site, follow the label and the SDS supplied with the product, and contact us so we can update the Site.

3. Professional and industrial use

Many of our products are formulated for industrial, professional, maintenance, electronics, and technical applications. They are sold to adults (18 or older) who will read and follow the label. Please keep in mind:

  • You are responsible for choosing a product that suits your application. Test for compatibility with plastics, rubber, coatings, and finishes on a small, hidden area first.
  • Do not use a product on energized (live) electrical equipment unless its label specifically says it is suitable for that use. Turn off and disconnect power before cleaning or lubricating electrical parts.
  • Do not use products on or in the human body, on food, or in food-contact applications unless the label specifically says the product is suitable for that use.
  • These products are not toys and are not intended for use by children.

4. General safety guidelines

Always read the full label and Safety Data Sheet before use. The following general guidelines do not cover every hazard.

Aerosol cans

  • Many aerosols are extremely flammable. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, pilot lights, and hot surfaces. Do not smoke while using.
  • Contents are under pressure. Do not puncture or burn the can, even when empty.
  • Do not expose to temperatures above 120°F (49°C), for example in a closed vehicle in summer. The can may burst.
  • Use only with good ventilation. Do not spray toward your face, eyes, or skin.
  • Deliberately concentrating and inhaling the contents can be harmful or fatal.

Butane fuel canisters

  • Use only with appliances designed for the canister, and follow the appliance manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Burning fuel produces carbon monoxide, an odorless gas that can cause serious illness or death. Use only in well-ventilated areas, and do not use in tents, vehicles, or enclosed spaces unless the appliance is specifically approved for that use.
  • Check that the canister and seal are not damaged before attaching it. Do not use a dented, rusted, or leaking canister.
  • Never refill or puncture a canister. Store canisters in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from heat and ignition sources, and below 120°F (49°C).

Chafing fuel

  • Use only in a holder designed for chafing fuel, on a stable surface, away from anything that can catch fire.
  • The flame can be hard to see in bright light. Never add, move, or refill fuel while it is lit or still hot.
  • Put out the flame with a snuffer or the can’s lid, and let the can cool before handling.

Oils, greases, penetrants, sealants, and cleaners

  • Avoid contact with eyes and prolonged contact with skin. Wear gloves and eye protection as recommended on the label or SDS.
  • Use with good ventilation, including while sealants cure. Some silicone sealants release vapors with a vinegar-like odor while curing.
  • Keep containers tightly closed when not in use.

Storage

  • Keep all products out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Store products in their original, labeled containers, tightly closed, in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, away from food and drinks.
  • Follow any local fire code rules on storing fuels and flammable products.

First aid and emergencies

  • Follow the first-aid instructions on the label and in the SDS.
  • If someone may have swallowed or inhaled a product, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 (United States).
  • For fire, serious injury, or any emergency, call 911.

Disposal

  • Do not pour chemical products down drains or onto the ground.
  • Dispose of leftover products, partly full aerosol cans, and fuel canisters according to the label and your local household hazardous waste rules. Many communities accept empty aerosol cans for recycling. Check with your local waste authority.

5. Shipping safety

Aerosols, butane, and some fuels are shipped as regulated hazardous materials by ground only. If a package arrives damaged or leaking, do not repack or reship it. Move it to a safe, well-ventilated area away from heat and ignition sources, follow the label and SDS, and contact us as described in our Return & Refund Policy and Shipping Policy.

6. Recalls and safety notices

If a manufacturer or a government agency announces a recall or safety notice for a product you bought from us, we may contact you using the information from your order. You can also check current consumer product recalls at cpsc.gov/Recalls.

7. Report a safety concern

If you have a safety question, or a product caused an injury or property damage, please contact us right away.
