Overview

Gas One 6 hour chafing fuel is a liquid, diethylene glycol based fuel in a can with an inserted wick, made to keep food warm in chafing dishes. This pack of six (Gas One part number CFD-6-6) is sized for a home party, a holiday buffet or a small catered lunch: one can per fuel holder covers three two-holder chafing dishes, or six single-holder warmers, for one event.

Key features

  • Six cans of Gas One 6-hour wick chafing fuel (CFD-6-6)
  • Diethylene glycol based liquid fuel, per Gas One
  • Inserted wick that Gas One describes as easy to light and operate
  • Designed to run for 6 hours, so an event up to that length needs no can change
  • Resealable cap, so unused fuel can be saved for next time

Where to use it

Gas One lists chafing dishes, room service and beverage urns as applications. At home and in small venues, that means graduation and holiday parties, potlucks, church or community dinners, office lunches and small catering jobs. It is a food-warming fuel: cook the food first, then hold it warm.

How to use

  1. Set up the chafing dish frame on a stable, heat-safe table, with the water pan in place as the dish maker directs.
  2. Remove the can’s cap, check that the wick is upright, and set the can in the fuel holder.
  3. Light the wick with a long match or long-reach lighter, keeping hands and sleeves clear.
  4. Never move the chafing dish or add fuel while a can is lit.
  5. To finish, put the flame out as the can label directs, let the can cool completely, then reseal it with its cap.

Compatibility and cautions

Use these cans only as the heat source under chafing dishes and warmers built for fuel cans. Keep the flame clear of tablecloths, napkins, paper and decorations, never leave lit cans unattended, and follow your venue’s fire rules indoors. Keep cans away from children and pets, store sealed cans in a cool place away from heat and flame, and read the label before use. Chafing fuel ships by ground only to the contiguous US and cannot be returned for a change of mind (see our shipping policy).

Choosing between pack sizes

If you host or cater regularly, the 6 hour chafing fuel 12 pack is Gas One’s larger pack, and the chafing fuel 24 pack covers big events or stocking up. Compare options in chafing fuel, or read our GasOne chafing fuel guide.

FAQ

How long does Gas One chafing fuel burn?

Gas One designs each can of this fuel to run for 6 hours. Drafts and how the fuel holder is set up can change the actual time.

What is chafing fuel made of?

This Gas One fuel is diethylene glycol based, a liquid fuel that burns from an inserted wick, according to Gas One.

Can you reuse chafing fuel?

Yes, if fuel is left. Gas One's can has a resealable cap so it can be used more than once; let the can cool completely before you cap it.

How many chafing fuel cans do I need per chafing dish?

One can per fuel holder. Many full-size chafing dishes have one or two holders, and at 6 hours per can you usually do not need to swap cans during an event.
