SiliKroil SK102 is Kano Laboratories’ Kroil penetrant with silicone in a 10 oz aerosol. It penetrates tight spaces to break the bond of rust, then dimethyl silicone adds longer-lasting lubrication and moisture protection. Kano designs it for frozen bearings, slides, gate valves, hinges, chains and salt-exposed hardware. Flammable aerosol, ground shipping only.

Overview

SiliKroil (Kano SKU SK102, now labeled Kroil Penetrant with Silicone) combines Kroil penetrating oil with dimethyl silicone in a 10 oz aerosol. Kano sums it up as free it up, lube it up, finish it up: the high-solvency oil first penetrates the tightest spaces to break the bond of rust, then the silicone stays behind for longer-lasting lubrication and rust protection. Choose it when the part you free will keep moving and needs protection afterward.

Key features

  • Kroil penetrant plus dimethyl silicone for longer-lasting lubrication and rust protection (Kano)
  • Penetrates deeply into frozen metal parts; will not attack or damage metal
  • Slightly reddish; carbon dioxide propellant; flash point 132°F (55.5°C) per the SDS
  • 50-state VOC compliant; made in the U.S.A.

Where to use it

Kano designs SiliKroil for frozen bearings, slides, gate valves, hinges and chains, and calls it excellent in coastal areas or anywhere salt and weather are a factor: boat and trailer hardware, dock fittings, outdoor gates and farm implements. Kano also recommends it at installation on stainless steel and aluminum fittings that tend to gall and re-seize.

How to use

  1. Clean loose rust and debris off the part.
  2. Spray the joint, threads or sliding surface.
  3. Allow 15 to 30 minutes, longer for heavy corrosion, and re-apply if needed.
  4. Free the part with steady force, then cycle hinges, slides or chains so the silicone film spreads.

Compatibility and cautions

Kano names SiliKroil, along with Kroil Clear, as its recommended alternative to Kroil Original where rubber seals or plastic parts are involved. Its solvent base is still petroleum, so test rubber and plastic first. Silicone films are hard to paint over: clean parts thoroughly, or use Kroil Original, if they will be painted or bonded. The SDS classifies it as a flammable aerosol in a pressurized container that may burst if heated; it can irritate skin and eyes, may cause an allergic skin reaction and is an aspiration hazard. Ventilate, keep it away from flames and heat, and read the label and SDS. Ground shipping only, contiguous US (shipping policy).

Choosing between SiliKroil and Kroil Original

Kano says both have similar penetrating properties; the difference is the lasting lubrication and extra moisture protection from silicone. For pure penetration, or parts that will be painted, choose AeroKroil KS102 in the same 10 oz size, or the larger AeroKroil KS162. For liquid, see the Kroil KL081 drip bottle. Compare all three in our AeroKroil vs SiliKroil guide.

FAQ

What is the difference between SiliKroil and AeroKroil?

Kano says both penetrate similarly; SiliKroil adds dimethyl silicone for longer-lasting lubrication and extra moisture protection. AeroKroil is Kroil Original without silicone.

Is SiliKroil safe on rubber?

Kano recommends SiliKroil, or Kroil Clear, over Kroil Original where rubber seals or plastic components are involved. Its base is still a petroleum solvent, so test a hidden area first.

Can I paint over SiliKroil?

Silicone residue generally interferes with paint adhesion, so degrease the part thoroughly first, or use Kroil Original on parts that will be painted.

Where is SiliKroil most useful?

Kano lists frozen bearings, slides, gate valves, hinges and chains, especially in coastal areas or anywhere exposed to salt and weather.
