Super Lube 11016 Dri-Film is a dry film lubricant spray: a fast-evaporating solvent carries Syncolon (PTFE) powder onto the part and leaves a clean white film that does not attract dust. Overview

Super Lube 11016 Dri-Film Lubricant with Syncolon is an 11 oz aerosol for parts where an oily or greasy film would collect grit or stain the work. The spray delivers sub-micron Syncolon® particles (Super Lube’s PTFE) in a solvent that evaporates very quickly; what stays behind is a dry, white, low-friction coating with good release properties. Super Lube rates it from -45°F to 500°F (-43°C to 260°C), and it is NSF H1 registered (#136743) for incidental food contact.

Key features

  • Dry, non-oily PTFE film that will not attract dust or lint
  • Cleans while it lubricates; the small particle size does not clog the nozzle
  • Per the data sheet, the film is not affected by oil, water or solvents
  • Non-conducting: forms an insulating barrier on electronics
  • NSF H1 registered, Kosher certified, VOC exempt under California rules; made in USA

Where to use it

Super Lube lists door locks and lock cylinders, industrial slides and glides, window guides, trunk hinges, zippers, chains and cable swivels, intricate clockworks, precision instruments, musical instruments, exercise equipment, in-line skates, bicycles and radio-controlled cars, boats and planes. It also works as a molding release agent. The film can go on wood, paper, glass, rubber, fabric, leather, vinyl and metal, and on most plastics that are not under stress.

How to use

  1. Work in a well-ventilated area, away from open flame or incandescent material.
  2. Shake the can well before using.
  3. Spray a light coat; fit the extension tube for pinpoint application into lock cylinders and tight gaps.
  4. Let the solvent evaporate until only the dry white film remains, then operate the mechanism.

Compatibility and cautions

On plastics, test a hidden spot first: the data sheet limits use to plastics not under stress. The SDS classifies the can as an extremely flammable aerosol that may burst if heated; it causes skin irritation, is suspected of damaging fertility, and may be fatal if swallowed and it enters the airways. It also carries a California Proposition 65 warning (see our Prop 65 & Product Safety page). Always read the label and SDS. As an aerosol, it ships by ground only within the contiguous U.S. and cannot be returned for a change of mind.

Choosing between Super Lube sprays

Pick Dri-Film when the surface has to stay dry and clean. For bearings, hinges and chains that need a wet, long-lasting film, the Super Lube 31110 Multi-Purpose Synthetic Lubricant aerosol leaves a thin grease film instead. For rubber seals and weather stripping, Super Lube 91110 silicone spray is the silicone option. Our Super Lube aerosol guide compares the sprays side by side.

FAQ

What is a dry film lubricant?

A lubricant that goes on wet and dries to a solid, non-oily coating. In Super Lube 11016 the solvent evaporates and leaves Syncolon (PTFE) particles on the surface, so dust and lint have nothing sticky to cling to.

Should I use a PTFE dry spray or a silicone spray?

Use a dry PTFE film like 11016 where you want no wet residue, such as locks, slides, zippers and fabric. A silicone spray such as Super Lube 91110 leaves a non-drying film and is aimed at rubber seals, gaskets and weather stripping.

Is Super Lube Dri-Film food grade?

It is NSF H1 registered (#136743), which covers lubricants used where incidental food contact may occur. It is not meant to be applied to food or used as an ingredient.

Can I use Dri-Film on electronics?

Super Lube describes the dried film as non-conducting and says it forms an insulating barrier on electronics. Spray only with the equipment powered off and let the solvent evaporate completely, because the spray is extremely flammable.
