Overview

Super Lube 83110 is a rust inhibitor spray built on a synthetic penetrating oil. It works into hard-to-reach areas, drives out moisture and leaves a protective lubricating film that helps prevent future rust and corrosion on steel, aluminum and other metal surfaces. Super Lube recommends applying it before storing or shipping equipment, to preserve it against heat and humidity in adverse conditions.

Key features

  • Passes a 500-hour salt spray test (ASTM B117), per Super Lube’s data sheet
  • Cleans, penetrates and displaces moisture; the non-drying film will not harden or crack
  • Copper corrosion rating 1A (ASTM D130)
  • Viscosity 53 to 60 cSt at 40°C; pour point -30°F (-34°C)
  • Kosher certified; made in USA

Where to use it

Nuts, bolts and screws; hand tools, locks and hinges; chains, cables, pulleys, sprockets and rollers; garage door slides; metalworking, metal fabrication and wrought iron; battery terminals and connections; and manufacturing, shipping and receiving equipment, especially where humidity is high or equipment is going into storage.

How to use

  1. Remove dirt and loose scale so the oil can reach the metal.
  2. Apply liberally on the parts.
  3. Allow time to soak in, especially on threads and tight assemblies.
  4. Re-apply after washing or heavy exposure, and before each storage period.

Compatibility and cautions

Super Lube describes it for metal surfaces and publishes no plastic or rubber statement, so test non-metal parts first. The SDS classifies it as an extremely flammable aerosol that may burst if heated; it causes serious eye and skin irritation, may cause drowsiness or dizziness, and may be fatal if swallowed and it enters the airways. Use with ventilation, away from sparks and flame. A California Proposition 65 warning applies (see Prop 65 & Product Safety). It ships by ground only within the contiguous U.S. and cannot be returned for a change of mind.

Choosing between 83110 and other Super Lube protectants

83110 is for bare metal and mechanisms. For electrical terminals and connectors that need a thicker sealing coat, use Super Lube 82003 Anti-Corrosion & Connector Gel or Super Lube 91003 dielectric grease. For long-term lubrication of moving parts, the Super Lube 31110 aerosol leaves a grease film. See the Super Lube corrosion inhibitors guide.

FAQ

How do I protect tools from rust in storage?

Clean and dry the tools, spray 83110 liberally, let it soak in, and store them in a dry place. Re-apply after the tools are washed or used in wet conditions.

Is Super Lube 83110 a penetrating oil?

Yes. Super Lube describes it as a synthetic penetrating oil that also leaves a protective lubricating film to help prevent future rust and corrosion.

Does the film dry?

No. Super Lube describes a non-drying film that will not harden or crack, intended for preventive maintenance in high-humidity environments.

Can I use it on battery terminals?

Super Lube lists battery terminals among its applications. For a thicker coat that seals the whole terminal, 82003 Anti-Corrosion & Connector Gel is the dedicated product.
