Overview

Super Lube 56504 is Super Lube Silicone Oil in its highest viscosity, 5,000 cSt, in a 4 oz bottle. Like the rest of the line it is a straight-chain polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fluid: clear, chemically inert and resistant to oxidation, hydrolysis and aging. At fifty times the viscosity of the 100 cSt grade, though, it stays where it is put instead of running off, which makes it the high viscosity silicone oil for damping and for coating parts where a thin fluid would drain away.

Key features

  • 5,000 cSt at 25°C; specific gravity 0.973
  • -58°F to 392°F (-50°C to 200°C); pour point -45°C per the data sheet
  • Dielectric strength 18 kV/mm; flash point above 572°F (300°C)
  • Shear stable and chemically inert, with high oxidation resistance
  • NSF H1 (#151067), Kosher; PFAS-free per super-lube.com; made in USA

Where to use it

Super Lube lists the 5,000 cSt grade for humidity-control instruments and gauges, level-monitoring equipment and level switches, underwater camera equipment, underwater robotics and ROV technology, and digital display equipment. General silicone fluid uses apply as well: dashpots, shock absorbers, torsional vibration dampers, timing devices, and lubrication of rubber and plastic parts.

How to use

  1. Clean and dry the area to be treated.
  2. Apply a thin film with a clean brush or applicator; at 5,000 cSt the oil pours slowly, so give it time.
  3. Re-apply as necessary.

Compatibility and cautions

The fluid lubricates a wide range of rubber and plastic parts. Super Lube’s O-ring fluid charts rate silicone rubber as not compatible with silicone fluids, so avoid using it on silicone rubber. Keep it off surfaces that will be painted or bonded. Read the SDS before use.

Choosing between 5,000 cSt, 100 cSt and O-ring lubricant

Need a thin, fast-spreading fluid for instruments, baths or treadmills? Choose Super Lube 56104 Silicone Oil 100 cSt. Lubricating O-rings? Super Lube 56204 O-Ring Silicone Lubricant is also a 5,000 cSt fluid, but it is registered and documented specifically for O-rings, with a published rubber and plastic compatibility chart. Stocking a lab or service department? The 56504 3-pack holds three bottles.

FAQ

What is 5000 cSt silicone oil used for?

Super Lube lists humidity and level instruments, level switches, underwater camera and ROV equipment and digital displays, plus damping uses such as dashpots and shock absorbers. The high viscosity keeps it in place on the part.

Is Super Lube 56504 a 500 cSt oil?

No. 56504 is 5,000 cSt. Super Lube's silicone oils come in 100, 350, 1,000 and 5,000 cSt; there is no 500 cSt grade.

What is the difference between 56504 and 56204?

Both are clear 5,000 cSt silicone fluids rated -58°F to 392°F. 56204 is Super Lube's dedicated O-ring lubricant with an O-ring compatibility chart; 56504 is the general silicone oil for instruments, damping and similar uses.

Is it food grade?

Yes. It is NSF H1 registered (#151067) for incidental food contact and Kosher certified.
