Overview
Super Lube 56204 is a liquid O-ring lubricant: a specially formulated, non-curing silicone fluid for lubricating, sealing and conditioning O-rings and the regulator and valve components around them. A light coat at installation helps protect an O-ring from abrasion, pinching and cutting, helps it seat properly and speeds assembly. In dynamic pneumatic applications, Super Lube says a lubricated O-ring extends equipment service life, and in vacuum service the fluid fills the gland’s surface gaps to help reduce the overall leak rate.
Key features
- Clear silicone fluid, 5,000 cSt at 25°C; non-curing
- -58°F to 392°F (-50°C to 200°C); dielectric strength 18 kV/mm
- Waterproof; seals out moisture; resists oxidation; heat stable
- Published compatibility chart: rated excellent with EPDM, nitrile (NBR), FKM/Viton, neoprene, natural rubber, butyl and most plastics
- NSF H1 (#156449), Kosher; PFAS-free per super-lube.com; made in USA
Where to use it
Static and dynamic O-rings, pneumatic systems, seals, valves, pressure plug valves, water softener and faucet valves, pool pump and filter seals, rubber gaskets, weather stripping and food-processing equipment. The liquid form flows into grooves and coats small O-rings evenly, which makes it handy for filter housings and valve cartridges.
How to use
- Clean the O-ring, its groove and the mating surfaces; remove grit and old lubricant.
- Apply evenly to the O-ring and surfaces; a thin film is enough.
- Seat the O-ring without rolling or twisting it, then assemble.
Compatibility and cautions
Do not use it on silicone rubber O-rings (VMQ, MQ, FMQ, PMQ, VMFQ): Super Lube rates them not compatible. POM (Delrin) and PPS are rated good rather than excellent. Super Lube’s data sheet describes the fluid as safe in potable water; note that NSF H1 covers incidental food contact and is not an NSF/ANSI 61 drinking-water certification, so if a filter or appliance maker specifies a particular lubricant, use that. Read the SDS.
Choosing between O-ring lubricant and O-ring grease
Liquid 56204 suits small O-rings and quick assembly. For a heavier film that stays put on large or vertical seals and vacuum chambers, choose Super Lube 93016 O-Ring Silicone Grease (NLGI 2, 14.1 oz canister). Buying for a service van or a crew? FAQ
What lubricant should I use on O-rings?
Match the lubricant to the O-ring material. A silicone O-ring lubricant like 56204 is rated excellent with EPDM, nitrile, Viton/FKM and neoprene, but should not be used on silicone rubber O-rings.
Is it safe for water filter O-rings?
Super Lube lists water softener and faucet valves among its uses and describes the fluid as safe in potable water. It is NSF H1 registered, which is not the same as an NSF/ANSI 61 drinking-water certification, so follow your filter maker's lubricant specification.
Can I use it on silicone O-rings?
No. Super Lube's compatibility chart rates silicone rubber (VMQ, MQ, FMQ, PMQ, VMFQ) as not compatible with this product.
What is the difference between Super Lube 56204 and 56504?
Both are clear 5,000 cSt silicone fluids with the same temperature range. 56204 is Super Lube's O-ring lubricant, registered as such (NSF H1 #156449) with a published O-ring compatibility chart; 56504 is sold as a general silicone oil for instruments, damping and similar uses.
