Overview

Super Lube 56104 is Super Lube Silicone Oil in the 100 cSt viscosity, in a 4 oz bottle. It is a straight-chain polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fluid, which Super Lube describes as a pure silicone fluid: clear, chemically inert, resistant to oxidation, hydrolysis and aging, and with a viscosity that changes relatively little with temperature. 100 cSt is the thinnest grade in Super Lube’s silicone oil line (100, 350, 1,000 and 5,000 cSt), so it flows and spreads easily into small clearances.

Key features

  • 100 cSt at 25°C; viscosity/temperature coefficient 0.60
  • -58°F to 392°F (-50°C to 200°C); flash point above 572°F (300°C)
  • Dielectric strength 16 kV/mm at 25°C
  • Shear stable, with high spreading and wetting ability
  • NSF H1 (#151067), Kosher; PFAS-free per super-lube.com; made in USA

Where to use it

Consumer uses Super Lube lists include treadmills and exercise equipment, zippers, tents, canvas, shoes, weather stripping, windows, slides and guide rails. Industrial uses for the 100 cSt grade include flow, temperature and motion control, instruments and gauges exposed to extreme temperatures and pressures, laboratory baths and heat transfer, dashpots, shock absorbers and damping fluid, and food-processing chutes, bins, walls and tables. Super Lube also recommends 100 cSt oil for thinning silicone-based grease.

How to use

  1. Clean and dry the area to be treated.
  2. Apply sparingly; the fluid spreads into a thin film on its own.
  3. For treadmills and other machines, follow the equipment maker’s lubrication instructions.
  4. Re-apply as necessary.

Compatibility and cautions

Silicone oil lubricates most rubbers and plastics. Super Lube’s compatibility charts for its silicone O-ring fluids rate silicone rubber as not compatible, so avoid silicone-on-silicone use. Super Lube markets its silicone-free greases for paint and finishing areas; keep silicone oil away from surfaces you plan to paint or bond. Read the SDS.

Choosing between 100 cSt and 5,000 cSt

56104 (100 cSt) is thin and penetrating, for instruments, damping, heat transfer and light lubrication. Super Lube 56504 Silicone Oil 5000 cSt is fifty times as viscous and clings to the part; Super Lube lists it for humidity and level instruments, underwater camera housings and ROV equipment (also as a 3-pack). For O-rings specifically, use Super Lube 56204 O-Ring Silicone Lubricant, and for a spray, Super Lube 91110.

FAQ

What does 100 cSt mean on silicone oil?

cSt (centistokes) is a unit of viscosity. At 100 cSt, Super Lube 56104 is the thinnest of the four silicone oil grades Super Lube makes; 56504 is 5,000 cSt.

Is silicone oil safe for plastic and rubber?

Super Lube describes it as an excellent lubricant for rubber and plastic parts. Avoid using silicone fluids on silicone rubber, which Super Lube's O-ring fluid charts rate as not compatible.

Can I use Super Lube silicone oil on a treadmill?

Super Lube lists treadmills among its consumer applications. Check your treadmill's manual for the lubricant type and amount it specifies before applying.

Is it food grade?

Yes. It is NSF H1 registered (#151067) for incidental food contact and Kosher certified.
