Overview
The Gas One 8 oz butane canister (part number GAS-1) holds 227 g of butane in a non-refillable cartridge with a notched collar. Gas One describes it as a UL listed fuel source for butane-powered appliances, including portable stoves, and its GS-3000 stove manual calls for exactly this canister. A single can makes a camp-kit spare or lets you test a stove before stocking up.
Key features
- 8 oz (227 g) of butane, Gas One part number GAS-1
- UL listed, according to Gas One’s wholesale catalog
- Notched collar for vapor withdrawal: the notch lines up with the stove regulator’s guide so the valve draws vapor, not liquid
- Listed by Gas One as the fuel for its portable butane stoves, such as the GS-3000, and for its dual-fuel stoves when they run on butane
- Non-refillable: use it, then dispose of it according to local rules
Where to use it
Use it in portable tabletop stoves that take 8 oz butane cartridges: camping, tailgating, backyard cooking, and outdoor backup cooking during a power outage. Gas One’s GS-3000 instruction manual lists that stove for outdoor camp use and indoor use in commercial restaurants, not household use, while Gas One’s current product page labels it “For Outdoor Use Only.” Follow the label and manual of your own stove.
How to use
- Confirm that your appliance manual calls for an 8 oz butane cartridge with a notched collar.
- With the control knob off, the stove cool and no flame or pilot light nearby, open the canister compartment.
- Line up the notch in the canister collar with the regulator guide, insert the canister, lock it in and close the cover.
- Check for leaks with soapy water; bubbles mean a leak. Never use a flame to check.
- After cooking, turn the stove off, let it cool and remove the canister before you store the stove.
Compatibility and cautions
Use the canister only in appliances designed for it; if it will not lock in with the notch aligned, do not force it. Gas One’s manual says never to store butane near heat, open flames, pilot lights or direct sunlight, or anywhere above 120°F (49°C), which rules out a hot car. Keep canisters upright, avoid drops and impacts, keep them away from children, and never throw an empty canister into a fire. Butane stoves produce carbon monoxide: Gas One warns never to use its stove in an enclosed space such as a tent, camper, car or home, and not to operate it below 32°F.
Butane ships by ground only within the contiguous US (no AK, HI, PR, APO/FPO or P.O. boxes) and cannot be returned for a change of mind. Details: shipping policy and return and refund policy.
Choosing between a single canister and packs
One canister is right for a spare or a first test. For a weekend trip, the GasOne butane fuel 4 pack is easier; for longer trips or groups, the 8-pack; for weekly cooking, restaurants and caterers, the 12-pack; for events and stocking up, the 24-pack case. The packs ship free to NJ, NY, PA, DE, MD and DC. Our GasOne butane fuel guide goes deeper, and all fuels are in Fuels.
Compare all GasOne butane pack sizes and prices per can, or read the NYC and New Jersey storage and disposal rules.

FAQ
How long does an 8 oz butane canister last?
It depends on the stove and the flame setting. Gas One rates its 9,000 BTU/hr GS-3000 at 185 g/h of fuel at maximum, so one 227 g canister lasts roughly 1 hour 15 minutes at full flame on that stove, and longer at lower settings.
Are Gas One butane canisters refillable?
No. GAS-1 is a non-refillable canister. When it is empty, dispose of it under your local rules and never put it in a fire.
Will this canister fit my stove?
It fits portable appliances designed for 8 oz butane cartridges that lock in by a notched collar, including Gas One's butane stoves. Check your appliance manual for the required canister type.
Can butane be shipped to Alaska or Hawaii?
Not from us. Butane ships by ground only within the contiguous US, so we cannot send it to AK, HI, Puerto Rico, APO/FPO addresses or P.O. boxes.
