Overview

Super Lube 51004 is a general-purpose synthetic oil with PTFE in a 4 oz bottle. Super Lube’s own name for the formula is Multi-Use Synthetic Oil with Syncolon®: a synthetic blend in which Syncolon (PTFE) particles stay suspended and, per the manufacturer, bond to the surfaces of moving parts to protect against friction, wear, rust and corrosion. It is an ISO 100 oil, 118 cSt at 40°C, with a continuous range of -45°F to 450°F (-43°C to 232°C) and intermittent use from -50°F to 500°F (-45°C to 260°C).

Key features

  • ISO 100 viscosity, viscosity index 131; Super Lube lists it as replacing ISO 100 to 150 oils and SAE 85W gear oil
  • Pour point -20°F (-29°C) maximum; flash point above 428°F (220°C)
  • Passes a 100-hour salt spray test (ASTM B117); copper corrosion 1A
  • Dielectric and waterproof
  • NSF H1 (#136742), Kosher and Halal; made in USA

Where to use it

Plain, anti-friction and roller bearings; enclosed industrial gears and gear-head motors; machine ways and machine tools; centralized lubricating systems; chains, cables and conveyors; hinges, nuts and bolts; paper shredders; and food-processing equipment. Super Lube states it is safe on metal, plastic, wood, leather, painted surfaces and most rubbers. It is also used on 3D printer smooth rods and bearings; follow your printer maker’s maintenance guide, and see our 3D printer lubricant page.

How to use

  1. Wipe the areas to be treated.
  2. Apply enough oil to coat all areas of contact.
  3. Re-apply as needed.

Compatibility and cautions

Safe on most rubbers and plastics, per Super Lube; with an unfamiliar material, test a hidden area first. Read the SDS before use. It is on our technical documents page.

Choosing between 51004, 52004 and other sizes

51004 is thicker (ISO 100) and carries Syncolon particles. Super Lube 52004 Synthetic Lightweight Oil is a clear ISO 68 oil with a lower pour point of -54°F (-48°C); it is the oil Super Lube lists for compressors, vacuum pumps and high-speed spindles. The same 51004 oil is also sold in a 7 mL precision oiler (51010) for pinpoint work, a 1 quart trigger sprayer (51600) for large surfaces, and as a 3-pack of 4 oz bottles. Compare all of them in our Super Lube oil guide.

FAQ

What is the difference between Super Lube 51004 and 52004?

51004 is an ISO 100 synthetic oil with suspended Syncolon (PTFE) for bearings, gears, chains and machine ways. 52004 is a clear ISO 68 lightweight synthetic oil with a -54°F pour point for compressors, vacuum pumps, spindles and instruments. Both are NSF H1 registered.

What viscosity is Super Lube 51004?

ISO grade 100: 118 cSt at 40°C and 15 cSt at 100°C, with a viscosity index of 131. Super Lube lists it as a replacement for ISO 100 to 150 oils and SAE 85W gear oil.

Is Super Lube oil good for 3D printers?

It is used on 3D printer rods and bearings, though Super Lube does not publish printer-specific guidance. Follow your printer maker's instructions; for lead screws and rails that call for grease, see Super Lube 21030.

Is it safe on plastic and rubber?

Super Lube states the oil is safe on metal, plastic, wood, leather, painted surfaces and most rubbers. Test an unfamiliar material on a hidden spot first.
